DESCRIPTION

California’s first covered bridges came to be due to the gold rush and played a significant role in the state’s development. Many survive to today and give us a glimpse into the past, as well as serve as focal points for local events. This book is an introduction to these bridges, their past, and other places or events to visit nearby. I hope reading this inspires many to visit and enjoy these little recognized icons of the past.

As a mostly continuous California resident, a carpenter, fly fisher, photographer, and possessing an intense curiosity for most everything, I have been fortunate to combine pursuits of many interests to discover much of California's history. An unexpected find as a result of seeking photo opportunities is California's Covered Bridges. The carpenter in me is interested in the engineering. Add to that my photographer's eye enjoys the aesthetics of the bridges, which of course generally span a fishing opportunity, the decision to visit these bridges is easy.
